Summary: Elsa and Anna were great friends/sisters until
one day, Elsa finds out that her powers can harm her little sister. She
separates herself from Anna, who is missing her terribly. Finally at coronation
day, Elsa comes out of her hiding room and Anna get to talk to her; also
telling her she and her newly met prince would like to marry. Elsa told her you
can’t marry someone you just met. In a verbal spur, Elsa shots ice and the
crowd is left gasping and terrified. This whole incident made Elsa flee from
her country into a snowy wilderness where she discovers freedom in using her
powers. What she doesn’t suspect, is that she set an eternal winter in her
village. Anna sets off on the journey to find Elsa, so she can bring spring
again, and finally succeeds, with an act of true unselfish love.
Book Review: Even though it is a chapter book geared for
third grade and up, a second grader who is reading on the third grade level
will definitely enjoy this book. It is following the Disney movie “Frozen”
almost word per word and is a really interesting reading. Plus, it has 8 pages
of colored pictures which appear to be screenshots from the movie, so I think the
kids will love those as well.
Activity: Students will read the book and discuss the
actions of Elsa and Anna. They will find some instances where Anna and Elsa
would have a conversation. The students will judge if the phrases exchanged were
the best ones, and if they didn’t like the responses because they were not so
nice, they will write the ones they think will be better. Give examples of a
bad phrase or expression from the book and then give a nice response instead.
