Zebra on the go, by Jill Nogales

Nogales, Jill. Zebra on the go. Atlanta: Peachtree Publishers, 2017.
Lexile Level: 520
Learning Activity:
Children will be given a template of a zebra with no stripes after the first reading of the story. We will practice producing the phoneme /z/ together as a group. The next time the librarian reads the story, the kids will add a stripe (magic marker) to their zebra every time they hear the /z/ sound. Next we will take several common words such as pig, tag, sip, and as a group, pronounce these words with a z as the first letter. This will introduce rhyming words. We could extend the activity to another story that features the letter z. At the end of the story, we can all count our stripes and share how many we had.
