Goal
Students will recognize that characters change during a story.
Students will collaborate with others to write a response.
Outcome
Students will create a timeline representing when their characters changed.
In groups, students will write a description of why their character changed.
Objectives
Students will be able to interpret how a character changes by creating a timeline with at least four details.
Student will be able to explain why a character can change by writing a group response with at least 5 details.
Activity
Students will read the text as a fourth grade class. While reading, they will discuss character traits they notice in each of the main characters, Flora, George Buckman, Ulysses, and WIlliam Spiver.
After reading, students will choose 1 of the main characters and create a timeline showing when those changed during the story, including at least four details. They will indicate what action or event caused the character to change.
Then, in groups based on the character chosen, students will discuss what caused their character to change and write a group response with at least 5 details.
