Who Was Dr. Seuss?







Who Was Dr. Seuss?

Summary:
Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as "Dr. Seuss", grew up in Springfield Massachusetts. He is well known for his catchy rhymes and colorful books! The funny thing is, Ted didn't work very hard in school! In fact, his father worried he would never find a job after college! Most of his time was spent writing jokes and doodling interesting looking characters. Over the course of his career, Ted wrote
at least 40 books. One of the most popular books gifted to high school and college graduates is Oh, the Places You'll Go!.

Learning Activity:

Students will choose a “Who Was….” book from the library.  They will read and then complete the poster below.  They will be asked to present to the class.  Students are encouraged to used props or even dress like their chosen person!

5W5: Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to respond
and support analysis, reflection, and research by applying the Grade
5 Reading Standards.


Goal:
Students will read a “Who was….” book on a chosen person and complete
a “who was” poster. Students will present their research to the class.

Objective:
Students will research, write, and present information on a chosen biography.

Outcome:
Students will develop a well-written “who was” poster, paying attention to grammar and punctuation.  Students will have practice presenting their research to the class.
