Bud, not Buddy, is a orphan from Flint Michigan who soon finds himself on the run after a particularly bad foster family tries to give him back to the orphanage, but Bud is not going back to the orphanage, no, he decides to try and find his father, famed musician Herman E. Calloway. The book takes place in 1936 and highlights issues of labor rights, racism, and poverty that pervaded the United States during the Depression era. It's an award-winning book that I would highly recommend checking out.
