Summary

In 2010, this picture book was published. This book has colorful watercolors depicting Pete the Cat's latest adventure through singing along to a song. Engage readers and their families in a receptive questions patterned language, which includes questions such as "What color did it run his shoes (Litwin 6). Your students will be excited and ready to sing along to learn and learn about the different colors that Pete the Cat's shoes turn throughout his adventure.

This picture book focuses on Pete the Cat's journey of his new white shoes.Through his journey through strawberries, blueberries and mud, Pete the Cat discovers the change of the color of his shoes. The text focuses on creating a book that encourages singing along and answering questions about the new color of Pete the Cat's new shoes.

Learning Objective

Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of sorting words into categories by identifying colors and words associated with colors from the text titled Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes by: Eric Litwin. (Cognitive)

Learning Activity

This activity will focus on students receiving handouts with the multiple shapes of sneakers, similar to what was shown in this book. Each sneaker will contain a word associated with a color. For example, the word "strawberries" is associated with the color red.

In these handouts, students will identify the word and based on the word, will determine and connect the appropriate color (eg. red, blue, white, brown) to shade the sneaker with either crayons or markers. On this handout, each sneaker will be shaded with a color that is associated with a color that Pete the Cat's sneaker changes within the story. This activity is to reinforce the identification and  comprehension of colors and words associated with colors shown within the text.

Learning Outcome

Students will identify the colors and words associated with the colors shown in the book Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin.
