It’s Fancy Nancy Party Time
By: Jane O’Connor
Lexile Level: AD 450 (AD means that it is suggested to be read aloud to students.)
The pictures in this book are bright and colorful. They are also very intricate and detailed.
If I were to recommend this book, I would say do you like books about a little girs who keep you busy with her adventures?
Children will remember the little girl’s humor throughout the story.
Lesson Idea:
I will compose a parent letter giving them the party information. I will ask for volunteers or help with the food. The party is meant to be fancy: colorful, frivolous, carefree and fun.
Most girls will have no problem thinking of something fancy to wear but the boys may have some concerns. In the parent letter I will make some general suggestions: Hawaiian shirts, colorful hats, Dad’s tie, brightly colored socks, etc.
I will choose some lively music for your Fancy Nancy party, and maybe some of the students will show off their dancing skills! Like Nancy’s family, I will encourage polite manners and have “everyone eat with their pinkies up and say darling!" As Fancy Nancy would say, “It will be a stupendous party! Everyone will look posh!
