The Road Not Taken

The Road Not Taken
Robert Frost

Lexile Level: Prose do not receive a lexile level. However, I know that this poetry is appropriate for most students in upper elementary school.

What I will remember: This poem has always had a special place in my heart. I read it at my fourth grade poetry tree. This poem describes the essence of making choices in life.

What kids will remember: I hope that students will remember the line “I chose the one less traveled by,” because I think it proves that you don’t always have to follow your friends or others. You can lead your own life in the direction you wish.

Lesson Idea: I would create a poetry tree, like I had in 4th grade. Each student will choose a poem and will have to recite it at a poetry tree in front of their parents and family.

Standards:  Grade 3: RF.4b Read grade-level prose and poetry orally with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression on successive readings.
