Activity - Students will learn about the Macy’s Day Parade and the man behind the floats Tony Starg, students will then learn how to plan and build their own model balloons as a team to hang around the library in time for Thanksgiving.
Standard - CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.5.2 -
Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text, including how characters in a story or drama respond to challenges or how the speaker in a poem reflects upon a topic; summarize the text.
Goal - To be able to use the details from the text to understand the life of the main character, but also to understand the creativity behind the floats created.
Objective - Students will demonstrate a complete understanding of the text by working with their peers to create their own floats.
Outcome - Students will present their floats to each other and be able to explain why they chose what they did.
