We’re All Wonders

This story is a play off of the bestselling novel “Wonder”, also written by R.J. Palacio. “We’re All Wonders” is about a young boy who explains the different ways that he is just like every other kid, however he just happens to look different from other children. He describes his hurt feelings and how he manages to stay positive through his imagination (and his helmet!). The story ends with his hope that the world will open their eyes and be accepting of others because in reality, we are all different!
This story is deserving of the Caldecott award for a number of reasons. First, the story appeals to both young and old readers. The illustrations are colorful making it engaging for our young readers. The moral of the story makes it appealing to adults as we try to instill acceptance and positivity in the young minds of our readers. The text is simple, yet meaningful. Every reader is sure to develop love and empathy for others!
