When You Reach Me

I enjoyed the book When You Reach Me. I loved the suspicion of not knowing who wrote the letters. The suspicion of what was going to happen next made me want to keep turning the pages.  I think that When You Reach Me is a mystery. The story is centered on these suspicious notes that Miranda does not know who they are written by. Throughout the story, Miranda is attempting to discover who is writing them. I think that the jumping between two different times in Miranda’s life was a little confusing, but I also find it clever by the author. That is another way that I think the author keeps readers intrigued. When he leaves one timeline and jumps to the next, he has you waiting to see what will happen the next time you get back to the first timeline. The hook I would use to try to attract children to read this book would be do you like to read books that are like a mystery that you need to solve? Every time you turn the page there is a new piece of information that will help you piece together the mystery?
